Lessons from Don Cece PGA Golf Professional

I have been a PGA Golf Professional since 1996 and developed my teaching experience in various ways. As an Assistant Professional working for Jim Gallagher Sr. at Meshingomesia Country Club in Marion, Indiana, I learned that each student needs a tailored approach. Jim, whose teaching philosophy I share, believed that while fundamentals are vital, every student’s goals and strengths should guide instruction. For some, small improvements are enough; for others, a larger commitment is needed for significant change. We focused on making gradual adjustments that, when consistently repeated, led to big improvements and increased enjoyment of the game. After my time with Jim, and as Head Professional at Crimson Ridge Golf Club in Springville Indiana, I returned to Michigan and served as General Manager at Mulligans Golf Center in Auburn Hills for 13 years. There, I managed the lesson program, working alongside four full-time instructors as we each taught 250 to 300 lessons annually, with some teaching even more. I have always valued fundamentals, believing that mindful adjustments to the basics and swing control result in dramatic improvement. I am also certified by PGA Hope to work with players with physical or mental challenges, helping them enjoy the game without pressure to perform tasks that are not comfortable for them. I enjoy working with golfers at all levels: men, women, juniors, and those with new, moderate, or advanced skills.
